The small typically Spanish town of Bullas with a population of 10,000 lies 5
kilometres west of Cehegin and 40 kilometres from Murcia.
Set in beautiful surroundings next to the Mula river, Bullas is a
maze of steep, narrow streets with pretty houses whose friendly
inhabitants welcome visitors to Spain.
Bullas is an area renowned for its wine making. Dating back
centuries, it still plays a major part in the local Spanish economy today.
The town has a wine museum, a wine route and old cellars that have
been opened up to the public. There are even a few houses in the
town that still have their own underground cellars, still with the
original pot wine vats half buried into the ground - and still with
wine!
Places of interest to visit include the eighteenth century
Baroque church of Nuestra Seņora del Rosario, the former Palace of
Los Melagres (which is now a Cultural Centre), the Roman villa Los
Cantos, Moorish remains at El Castellar, the Medieval watchtower by
the Segura river and archaeological sites on the outlying districts.
If you want to visit the area to relax, there are parks to
visit and some beautiful walks down the River Mula.
The town now has a campsite that is open all year round and with facilities open to
the public, including indoor and outdoor pools and gymnasium.
The pretty town of Mula, with a population of
13,000, is set in an area of dense, green vegetation.
The town's main industries are pottery and textiles, and
the old town
centre, just like Bullas, is a maze of narrow, winding
and well kept streets.
Its thermal baths, the "Baņos
de Mula" with renowned healing qualities, are famous and have used since
the Roman times.
Places to visit include the Castle of Marques de los
Velez which overlooks the town, the Church of San Miguel
in the Plaza Mayor, the Church of Canto Domingo in the
upper part of the town and the Iberian art museum.
The more adventurous can enjoy sporting activities such as
trekking, mountain climbing and canoeing on the
La Cierva Reservoir of La Cierva are available.
